Shiny Things: Startup Manager

Product Description

Startup Manager helps you monitor and control your Windows startup.

Many Windows users find that their computer slows down over time. Some of this is due to your hard-drives becoming fragmented, but another major part is the number of programs that are starting up with Windows. If your system tray is starting to fill with icons, this is a good hint that you are running some programs that you don't really need to.

How does Startup Manager help you?

Startup Manager gives you a single, central interface to control the programs and services that start up with Windows. When you remove an item from your startup. But it also provides a number of additional features:

   Process & Service Control

When you remove a program or service from your startup, Startup Manager will check so see if it is currently running and turn the program on or off depending on your choice

   Improved Naming

Unlike MSCONFIG, Startup Manager attempts to locate additional information about programs. Rather than providing you with simply a filename to go off, it gives the program it's correct name.

   More Information

Unlike MSCONFIG, Startup Manager gives you additional information to about the programs starting up with Windows. You can check the file names, how they are being started, go to the directory containing the programs and check to see if they are currently running.

   Startup Configurations

With Startup Manager, you can create Startup Configurations - sets of programs that you will start up with when you are doing particular types of work. For instance, when you are playing games & word processing, you don't really need to be running your web server, waiting for MySQL and it's management console to start up etc. With Startup Manager, you can not only record different startup configurations for times when you are doing different jobs, but you can switch between them without restarting your machine.
